2009 GOOD-BYE!!!

I never cared to much about New Years Eve. Sometimes I went Out with the Crazy People. A lot of Times I just stayed home and Chilled. But this year its different. I want 2010 to get here RIGHT NOW!!!. I'm so tired of Death Stalking my Friends and Family in 2009. Its with Sadness I said good bye to... Friends from School, Gary Free... Damon Nickelson... My Uncle Gene who passed away on my Birthday... Jerry Burchfield who I met over 25 years ago at BC space. Soon after that I took a Cibacrome Class from him at OCC. I learned a lot from Jerry and it wasn't always about Photography. When I needed a friend he was there for me. Jerry you where such a Bright Shining Light. I will always treasure the times I spent with you ... I will not even list friends who have had other setbacks this year. Yes 2009 you are the Year I will remember with Sadness. The only redeeming thing about 2009 was the time I spent with Friends and Loved Ones. So 2010 lets get here soon and please LETS LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL.

Lab Chica San Diego

I loved walking on the pier at Ocean Beach in San Diego. I would go Day & Night. In Sunny weather and in my favorite the Fog. When it was Foggy you could not see the end of the T shaped pier or sometimes even the water below. I enjoyed listening to the unseen waves and the murmur of people fishing in the cold. I photographed in Black and White and also in Color.
This is one of my Favorite Portraits I did on the Pier of my Friend Cariely

It's all just a BLUR

I swear I did not plan to stop doing this Blog during My Christmas Vacation, I had all the Images loaded in the computer ready to go and then... BLAM!!!!!..... Life gets in the way and its all about taking your Mother to see Doctors with a Hospital Stay and sleeping in a Chair in her room.. When you bring her home your life changes!!!!! Right now everything is a BIG BLUR I can't make plans or do things at a drop of a hat because you must take care of a loved one.. Right now my Life is like living in a earthquake zone.. everything is shifting underneath you while you struggle to stay upright while trying to keep your eye on the ball before it turns into a BIG BLUR and smacks you in the FACE!!!
yep all is well and I'm GOOD :-)

Its Red Now!

One of the Wonders of Photography is that the COLOR you see may not be the COLOR you get. When I took this Polaroid I was standing in a hallway that was lit in nothing but ORANGE LIGHT. Oh I know all about Color Temperature and Your Films sensitivity to different areas of the color spectrum but wheres the fun in that. Now if someone is paying me to make color corrected images that's fine. When it comes to shooting my Polaroid 600's Lets just let it rip.

Its a knockout

This Pic always brings a smile to my face. I'm a sucker for a goofy face. I believe the hardest thing to photograph is humor. Not everyone gets a chuckle out of the same thing. Today it seems you can offend people with just a smile :-)

Chinatown

When was the last time I had been to Chinatown here in Los Angeles? I think it was back in the 1980's going to Madam Wong's to see the early PUNK Bands.. It seemed pretty shabby back then... Its now Friday morning 2009 and Chinatown must be 50% boarded up and theres not a tourist in sight. Chinatown is full of empty shops and its just the Elderly walking to the banks to get out some money for lunch. Its Sad to see the Old Girl Down on Her Luck, I hope I just caught her on a Bad Day.......

Hot New Camera.....NOT!

It says its a Cannon but you can't buy one at B&H Camera or Samys or even Freestyle on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. The only way to get this Chinese knock off is to find it at one of those dollar stores or swapmeets or the neighborhood yard sale. This Camera came with a fake leather bag and a cheap clip on Flash to go with its all plastic Body & Lens.. I have no idea how the images came out that Edward took... but it makes for a Cool Prop!!!.......

Exotic

This is one of my current favorite Polaroid Portraits. I love the way she gazes into the Camera Lens. Thats the thing about living here in Los Angeles you never know what your friends are going to be wearing when you see them next. On monday she was all torn jeans and a tee shirt and by thursday she's a fire breathing exotic princess.....

Landscape?

I have never been a big fan of Landscape images on Polaroid 600. I find most of them to be just a record of what was in front of the Photographer with very little thought of how light and composition are what help make photographs worth looking at. This pic of a Calif Oak Tree on a Grassy Hill side was shot about a month ago in the Santa Yenez Valley here in Calif. I was loving how the sunlight was skimming across the surface of the dry grass making it glow as the sun was setting. At times I forget its not only the subject matter that makes a great Photo but also about what the LIGHT is doing.....

Yes Sir.....No Sir

Anthony was one of the first guys i met when i moved to San Diego. I took this Photo the Day he became a Officer in the Marines.. It was right after the ceremony onboard the Tarwa in San Diego. This was one of the few times that when the band played the national anthem the crowd
did not mess around and yell PLAY BALL when it was over.

BLAH...BLAH...BLAH

For years I have been polaroid crazy. I have always used Polaroid materials to make B&W and Color Images. But my current passion is for the Polaroid 600 format as well as the Polaroid Spectra Camera System. I'm looking forward to sharing some of my favorites and talking about them. Heres hoping my shitty spelling and some lame comments don't drive you away. Later Richard

And so it Begins

welcome to the ramblins of my mind ...
lets hope its interesting. if not this will not last long
